Senate: The Senate continued processing nominations including Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Secretary of Labor, Steven Bradbury as Deputy Secretary of Transportation, Abigail Slater as Assistant Attorney General, Stephen Miran as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Keith Sonderling as Deputy Secretary of Labor, William Pulte as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Jeffrey Kessler as Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security, and Stephen Feinberg as Deputy Secretary of Defense. They passed the HALT Fentanyl Act (S.331). The Senate has until midnight on March 14 to pass the Continuing Resolution (H.R. 1968) or the government will shut down.
House: The House passed the Continuing Resolution to fund the government through September 30 (H.R. 1968), the Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act (H.R.1156), and a Congressional Review Act H.J.Res.25, to rescind the Internal Revenue Service’s rule "Gross Proceeds Reporting by Brokers That Regularly Provide Services Effectuating Digital Asset Sales".
Trump Administration: On March 13, President Trump announced his intent to put a 200% tariff on all wine, champagne, and alcoholic products out of France and the European Union. The announcement came following the European Union revealing plans to put a 50 percent tariff on U.S. made whisky.
