This Week In Washington


  • Senate – The Senate was in recess.

  • House – The House passed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2025 (H.R. 8774), the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act of 2025 (H.R. 8771), and the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2025 (H.R. 8752).

  • Biden Administration – On June 28, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned the Chevron Doctrine in a 6-3 decision. The Chevron Deference previously allowed federal agencies to interpret congressional statutes. According to the opinion, the Court held that “courts may not defer to an agency interpretation of the law simply because a statute is ambiguous.” This decision will potentially have far-reaching impacts, such as diminishing federal agencies’ ability to craft policy based on their scientific expertise.

  • Senate – The Senate will reconvene on Monday, July 8, and is expected to continue processing nominees.

  • House – The House will reconvene on Monday, July 8, and may consider the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act of 2025 (H.R. 8772).
