This Week’s Update

The Senate confirmed several nominations and adopted amendments to the three-bill spending minibus (H.R. 4366), which includes MilCon/VA, Agriculture, and Transportation/HUD spending bills. 25 amendments were passed by a voice vote while Amdt. 1210 and Amdt. 1354 were agreed to by a roll call vote. 

This Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate confirmed several nominations and adopted amendments to the three-bill spending minibus (H.R. 4366), which includes MilCon/VA, Agriculture, and Transportation/HUD spending bills. 25 amendments were passed by a voice vote while Amdt. 1210 and Amdt. 1354 were agreed to by a roll call vote. 
  • House –  The House elected Mike Johnson (R-LA) as Speaker of the House and passed the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 4394).
  • Biden Administration – President Biden requested a $56 billion supplemental funding package from Congress that includes $23.5 billion for natural disaster relief, $16 billion for child care, $6 billion for the Affordable Connectivity Program, $6 billion for communications infrastructure, $1.6 billion for energy assistance, $1.55 billion to counter fentanyl, $1.05 billion for international food assistance, and $220 million for wildland firefighter pay. 

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate will reconvene on Monday, October 30, and may resume consideration of nominees and H.R. 4366. 
  • House – The House will reconvene on Wednesday, November 1, and may consider the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act (H.R. 4364), the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 4821), and the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 4820).
