This Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate confirmed several nominations and continued consideration of H.R.4366, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. 
  • House – The House passed the Veterans Education Oversight Expansion Act (H.R. 3981), the Veterans Benefits Improvement Act (H.R. 1530), and the Native American Child Protection Act (H.R. 663). Votes to begin floor consideration of H.R. 4365, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, failed. 
  • Biden Administration – On September 21, the White House issued a fact sheet announcing the establishment of the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. The office will be overseen by Vice President Harris. 

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate will reconvene on September 26 and will focus on appropriations bills. The Senate may continue consideration of H.R.4366, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, and H.R.3935, to reauthorize and improve the Federal Aviation Administration and other civil aviation programs. 
  • House – The House had been scheduled to reconvene on Tuesday, September 26. However, the House currently stands in recess and Members have been advised that ample notice will be given ahead of any potential votes this weekend.
