This Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate confirmed several nominations, passed the Expanding Access to Capital for Rural Job Creators Act (S. 294) and the Administrative Fine Program Extension (S. 2747).
  • House – The House was in recess.
  • Biden Administration – On September 8, President Biden and several other key Administration officials traveled to India for the G20 meeting and related bilateral discussions. Also on September 8, the Biden Administration announced that it is making investments in a number of U.S. airports to improve aviation safety. As described in the White House Fact Sheet, the money will be used to improve air traffic controller awareness, prevent incorrect runway landings, and expand runway safety technology. The funding comes after the U.S. has seen an increase in close calls between aircraft at some of the country’s busiest airports.

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate will reconvene on September 11 and will focus on appropriations bills, with work expected on a Military Construction Appropriations bill. The bill may be combined with several other spending bills, as well as a supplemental appropriations package for disaster relief and Ukraine aid, creating a “minibus” spending bill.  The Senate will also resume considering nominations.
  • House – The House will reconvene on September 12 and will focus on appropriations bills, possibly taking up the Defense Appropriations bill on the House floor.
