This Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate confirmed nominations.
  • House – House Republican Leadership faced criticism from some conservative Members who were upset about the debt limit deal Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reached. These Members voted against procedural measures on several bills, effectively preventing floor action from moving forward. Republican Leadership sent Members home late Wednesday when it became clear a resolution was not imminent.

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate –The Senate will reconvene on Monday, June 12, at 3:00 PM and resume considering nominations.
  • House – The House may consider the Middle Class Borrower Protection Act of 2023 (H.R. 3564). It may also consider the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act of 2023 (H.R. 277), the Separation of Powers Restoration Act of 2023 (SOPRA) (H.R. 288), the Save Our Gas Stoves Act (H.R. 1640), the Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act (H.R. 1615), and a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution (H.J. Res. 44) to overturn the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives pistol brace rule.
