The Senate this week confirmed John Z. Lee, of Illinois, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Seventh Circuit by a vote of 50-44; Andre B. Mathis, of Tennessee, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit by a vote of 48-47; Dimitri Kusnezov, of Maryland, to be Under Secretary for Science and Technology, Department of Homeland Security; Jennifer H. Rearden, of New York, to be United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York; Puneet Talwar, of the District of Columbia, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Kingdom of Morocco; and Natalie K. Wight, of Oregon, to be United States Attorney for the District of Oregon. The Senate also passed the following bills: S.958, the MOBILE Health Care Act; S.3662, the Preventing PFAS Runoff at Airports Act; S.4791, GPO Director; S.1198, the Solid Start Act of 2021; H.R.5754, the Patient Advocate Tracker Act; and H.R.8656, Jackie Walorski VA Clinic; and adopted S.Res.737, Toxic Exposure Awareness Day.

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate will reconvene at 3:00 pm on Monday, September 12 and resume consideration of judicial nominations.
  • House – The House will reconvene on Tuesday, September 13, and is expected to consider the following legislation during the week: H.R. 302, the Preventing a Patronage System Act of 2021; H.R. 2988, the Whistleblower Protection Improvement Act of 2021; and H.R. 8326, Ensuring a Fair and Accurate Census Act. The House may also consider legislation to fund the government beyond September 30.
