This Week’s Update

The Senate passed the Honoring Our PACT Act (H.R. 3967), as amended, sending the bill back to the House. A bipartisan group of senators announced an agreement on a framework for federal gun control legislation, but have not yet reached an agreement on final text. The Senate confirmed Jaime Lizarraga and Mark Uyeda to be Members of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Naz Durakoglu to be Assistant Secretary of State.

This Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate passed the Honoring Our PACT Act (H.R. 3967), as amended, sending the bill back to the House. A bipartisan group of senators announced an agreement on a framework for federal gun control legislation, but have not yet reached an agreement on final text. The Senate confirmed Jaime Lizarraga and Mark Uyeda to be Members of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Naz Durakoglu to be Assistant Secretary of State.
  • House – The House passed the Ocean Shipping Reform Act (S. 3580) and the Supreme Court Police Parity Act (S. 4160), which President Biden subsequently signed into law. The House also passed the Financial Services Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Economic Justice Act (H.R. 2543) and the Lower Food and Fuels Costs Act (H.R. 7606). 

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate may consider gun control legislation. The Senate will continue its consideration of pending nominations, including Mary Boyle to be a Member of the Consumer Products Safety Commission, and Steven Dettelbach to be Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
  • House – The House is expected to vote on the Honoring Our PACT Act (H.R. 3967), as amended by the Senate. The House is also scheduled to consider the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act (H.R. 7666), the STRONG Veterans Act (H.R. 6411), the Advanced Research Project Agency–Health  (ARPA-H) Act (H.R. 5585), the Active Shooter Alert Act (H.R. 6538), and the LGBTQ Data Inclusion Act (H.R. 4176).
