This Week’s Update

The Senate confirmed Alex Wagner to be an Assistant Secretary of the Air Force; Chavonda Jacobs-Young to be Under Secretary of Agriculture for Research, Education, and Economics; Kenneth Wainstein to be Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security; Shalanda Baker to be Director of the Office of Minority Economic Impact at Department of Energy; Nina Morrison to be U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of New York; Todd Harper to be a Member of the National Credit Union Administration; and Amy Loyd to be Assistant Secretary for Career, Technical, and Adult Education. The Senate also passed legislation to amend the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act (S. 3499) and agreed to Mental Health Awareness Month (S. Res. 662).

  • House – The House passed the Food and Drug Amendments of 2022 (H.R. 7667), the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2021 (H.R. 2377), the Protecting Our Kids Act (H.R. 7910), the PPP and Bank Fraud Enforcement Harmonization Act of 2022 (H.R. 7352), the COVID–19 EIDL Fraud Statute of Limitations Act of 2022 (H.R. 7334), the Hubzone Price Evaluation Preference Clarification Act of 2021 (H.R. 5879), the Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act of 2022 (H.R. 7622), the Supporting Small Business and Career and Technical Education Act of 2022 (H.R. 7664), the WOSB Program Transparency Act (H.R. 7670), the Strengthening Subcontracting for Small Businesses Act of 2022 (H.R. 7694), and the Water Resources Development Act of 2022 (H.R. 7776).

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate will resume consideration of Calendar #388, H.R.3967, Honoring our PACT Act. The Senate also plans to vote to invoke cloture on the substitute amendment #5051 to H.R.3967. The Senate will also consider several pending amendments to H.R. 3967: (1) Tester substitute amendment #5051; (2) Schumer amendment #5065 (technical); and (3) Schumer amendment #5076 (technical). 
  • House – The House will consider legislation to address inflation and help bring costs down for Americans.  The House will consider H.R. 7606, the Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act. The House will also consider S. 3580, the Senate-passed companion to Rep. John Garamendi’s Ocean Shipping Reform Act, under suspension. Furthermore, the House will consider H.R. 2543, the Financial Services Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Economic Justice Act from Chairwoman Maxine Waters and the Financial Services Committee. The House will also consider H.R. 2773, Rep. Debbie Dingell’s bipartisan Recovering America’s Wildlife Act.
