This Week’s Update

The Senate debated legislation to suspend normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus. The Senate continued its consideration of pending judicial nominees and began proceedings to move to a conference committee to reconcile the America COMPETES Act (H.R. 4521) and the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (S. 1260). The Senate also passed the Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act (S. 516), the Safe Cribs Act (S. 1259), the Making Advances in Mammography and Medical Options for Veterans Act (S. 2533), the Supporting Families of the Fallen Act (S. 2794), and the Cannabidiol and Marihuana Research Expansion Act (S. 253). The Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

  • Senate – The Senate is scheduled to vote at 5:30 pm on Monday on a substitute amendment to the America COMPETES Act, and then to request a conference with the House to reconcile the America COMPETES Act and the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act. The Senate is expected to continue it consideration of legislation to suspend normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus. The Senate will also continue its consideration of pending nominations, including Nani Coloretti to Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget and C.S. Eliot Kang to be Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-Proliferation.
  • House – The House may vote on the Securing a Strong Retirement Act (H.R. 2954) and the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act (H.R. 3617).
