This Week’s Update

The Senate confirmed the nominations of Andrew Hunter to be Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Gabriel Camarillo to be Under Secretary of the Army, Claudia Slacik to be a Director of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation, Shelly Lowe to be Chairperson of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and several judicial nominees.

This Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate confirmed the nominations of Andrew Hunter to be Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Gabriel Camarillo to be Under Secretary of the Army, Claudia Slacik to be a Director of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation, Shelly Lowe to be Chairperson of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and several judicial nominees.
  • House – The House passed the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology, and Economic Strength (COMPETES) Act (H.R. 4521), which is a package of legislation focused on enhancing economic competition with China.

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate and the House may consider legislation to fund the government beyond the current February 18 expiration date.  The Senate could also consider legislation to impose sanctions against Russia for its aggression towards Ukraine. The Senate is expected to continue its consideration of pending judicial, ambassadorial, and federal agency nominees. 
  • House – The House may consider the Global Respect Act (H.R. 3485), the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act (H.R. 4445), and the Postal Service Reform Act (H.R. 3076).
