This Week’s Update

The House, the Senate, and the White House continued negotiations on the Build Back Better Act reconciliation package. The House passed legislation to extend expiring surface transportation programs through December 3, 2021, which subsequently passed the Senate. The House also passed the Sovereign Debt Contract Capacity Act (H.R. 4111), the Financial Transparency Act of 2021 (H.R. 2989), the Financial Exploitation Prevention Act of 2021 (H.R. 2265), and the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act (H.R. 2119).

  • Senate – The Senate confirmed Christopher Schroeder, Matthew Olsen, and Hampton Dellinger to be Assistant Attorneys General, Elizabeth Prelogar to be Solicitor General, Guy Kiyokawa to be Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Rahul Gupta to be Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and Douglas Parker to be Assistant Secretary of Labor, as well as several judicial and ambassadorial nominees.

Next Week in Congress

  • House – The House could potentially vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (H.R. 3684), and the Build Back Better Act reconciliation package, but no agreement has been reached as of yet and further delays could occur.
  • Senate – The Senate is expected to continue its consideration of pending nominations.
