This Week’s Update

The Senate confirmed the nominations of Polly Ellen Trottenberg to be Deputy Secretary of Transportation, Gary Gensler to Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Wendy Sherman to be Deputy Secretary of State, and Brenda Mallory to be Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality. The Senate began consideration of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act (S. 937).

  • Senate –The Senate confirmed the nominations of Polly Ellen Trottenberg to be Deputy Secretary of Transportation, Gary Gensler to Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Wendy Sherman to be Deputy Secretary of State, and Brenda Mallory to be Chair of the Council on Environmental Quality. The Senate began consideration of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act (S. 937).
  • House – The House passed the Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 7) and the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (H.R. 1195).

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate will continue its consideration of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act. The Senate is also expected to continue its consideration of pending nominations, including Lisa Monaco to be Deputy Attorney General, Vanita Gupta to be Associate Attorney General, and Gary Genser for an additional five-year term as a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission. 
  • House – The House is expected to vote on legislation to make Washington, D.C. the 51st state (H.R. 51). The House may also consider the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants (NO BAN) Act (H.R. 1333), and the Access to Counsel Act (H.R. 1573).
