This Week’s Update

On Wednesday, the House adopted a budget resolution (H. Con. Res. 11), which would set up the reconciliation process for taking up a coronavirus response package. Today, the House adopted the amended Senate budget resolution (S. Con. Res. 5). The House also passed a resolution (H. Res. 72) to remove Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) from her committee assignments. The House will vote on the National Apprenticeship Act (H.R. 447) later today.

This Week in Congress

  • House – On Wednesday, the House adopted a budget resolution (H. Con. Res. 11), which would set up the reconciliation process for taking up a coronavirus response package. Today, the House adopted the amended Senate budget resolution (S. Con. Res. 5). The House also passed a resolution (H. Res. 72) to remove Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) from her committee assignments. The House will vote on the National Apprenticeship Act (H.R. 447) later today.
  • Senate – Following a lengthy series of votes, the Senate adopted a budget resolution by a 51-50 vote with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tiebreaking vote. The Senate confirmed Alejandro Mayorkas to be Secretary of Homeland Security, and Pete Buttigieg to be Secretary of Transportation. 

Next Week in Congress

  • House – The House will hold a committee work week and meet in pro forma session. The House is expected to begin committee work on the “American Rescue Plan” reconciliation package of COVID relief proposed by the Biden Administration.
  • Senate – The Senate is scheduled to vote on the nomination of Denis McDonough to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs on Monday. The impeachment trial for President Trump is scheduled to begin on February 9.
