This Week’s Update

The Senate continued its consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021 (S. 4049). The Senate passed S. 4116, a bill to extend the deadline to apply for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans to August 8, 2020, as well as the Preventing Online Sales of E-Cigarettes to Children Act (S. 1253). The Senate passed the Hong Kong Autonomy Act (H.R. 7440), which will now go to the President for his signature.

This Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate continued its consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021 (S. 4049). The Senate passed S. 4116, a bill to extend the deadline to apply for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans to August 8, 2020, as well as the Preventing Online Sales of E-Cigarettes to Children Act (S. 1253). The Senate passed the Hong Kong Autonomy Act (H.R. 7440), which will now go to the President for his signature.
  • House – The House passed the Moving America Forward Act (H.R. 2), a $1.5 trillion infrastructure package, as amended; a modified version of the State Health Care Premium Reduction Act (H.R. 1425), which would expand Affordable Care Act subsidies and address prescription drug pricing; the Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act (H.R. 7301); the Hong Kong Autonomy Act (H.R. 7440); and the Protecting Your Credit Score Act (H.R. 5332). The House also passed S. 4116, sending the bill to the President for his signature. The House Armed Services Committee held a markup and approved its version of the NDAA (H.R. 6395).

Next Week in Congress

  • Senate – The Senate will be in recess but will meet in pro forma session.
  • House – The House will be in recess but will meet in pro forma session. House committees will continue to hold hearings and markups. The House Appropriations Committee will hold markups of Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 funding bills in all twelve of its subcommittees and begin markups at the full committee level.
