The House and Senate will meet at 10:30 for a Joint Meeting of Congress to receive His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic. Following the Joint Meeting, the House will consider one bill under suspension of the rules and move to consideration of H.R. 3144 – To provide for operations of the Federal Columbia River Power System pursuant to a certain operation plan for a specified period of time. The Senate will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #788, Mike Pompeo, of Kansas, to be Secretary of State.

  • Pompeo Nomination–Cloture:
    • Senate began consideration of the nomination of Mike Pompeo, of Kansas, to be Secretary of State.
  • A motion was entered to close further debate on the nomination, and, in accordance with the provisions of Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the Senate, a vote on cloture will occur on Thursday, April 26, 2018.
  • Prior to the consideration of this nomination, Senate took the following action:
    • Senate agreed to the motion to proceed to Legislative Session.
    • Senate agreed to the motion to proceed to Executive Session to consider the nomination.
  • A unanimous-consent agreement was reached providing for further consideration of the nomination at approximately 12 noon, on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
  • Grenell Nomination–Cloture:
    • Senate began consideration of the nomination of Richard Grenell, of California, to be Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Department of State.
  • A motion was entered to close further debate on the nomination, and, in accordance with the provisions of Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the Senate, a vote on cloture will occur upon disposition of the nomination of Mike Pompeo, of Kansas, to be Secretary of State.

Today

  • The Senate stands adjourned until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
  • Following leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #788, Mike Pompeo, of Kansas, to be Secretary of State. Cloture has been filed on the Pompeo nomination and on Executive Calendar #619, Richard Grenell, of California, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Federal Republic of Germany. The cloture vote on Pompeo is expected to occur Thursday morning.
  • At 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April 25, His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, will address a Joint Meeting of Congress. All Senators are invited to attend the joint meeting.  Senators should begin gathering in the Senate Chamber at 10:05 a.m. to depart as a body at 10:10 a.m. for the Hall of the House.
