  • Measures Considered:
  • Prohibit Federal Funding of Planned Parenthood: Senate resumed consideration of the motion to proceed to consideration of S. 1881, to prohibit Federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
    • During consideration of this measure today, Senate also took the following action:
      • By 53 yeas to 46 nays (Vote No. 262), three-fifths of those Senators duly chosen and sworn, not having voted in the affirmative, Senate rejected the motion to close further debate on the motion to proceed to consideration of the bill.
      • Senator McConnell entered a motion to reconsider the vote by which cloture was not invoked on the motion to proceed to consideration of the bill.
  • Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act–Cloture: Senate began consideration of the motion to proceed to consideration of S. 754, to improve cybersecurity in the United States through enhanced sharing of information about cybersecurity threats.
    • A motion was entered to close further debate on the motion to proceed to consideration of the bill, and, in accordance with the provisions of Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the Senate, a vote on cloture will occur on Wednesday, August, 5, 2015.
    • A unanimous-consent agreement was reached providing for further consideration of the motion to proceed to consideration of the bill at approximately 11 a.m., on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

Today:

  • The Senate stands adjourned until 10:00am on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
  • Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will be in a period of morning business for 1 hour, with the Republicans controlling the first half and the Democrats controlling the final half. Following morning business, the Senate will resume consideration of the motion to proceed to S.754, Cybersecurity.
  • The Senate will recess from 12:30 until 2:15pm to allow for the weekly conference meetings.
  • As a reminder, during Monday’s session Senator McConnell moved to proceed to S.754, Cybersecurity, and filed cloture on the motion. Unless an agreement can be reached, the cloture vote would occur one hour after the Senate convenes on Wednesday, August 5.
