The Senate holds confirmation and nomination votes; the House considers minor legislation

House

 

Yesterday:

  • The House agreed to suspend the rules and pass the following measures:
    • Financial Institution Bankruptcy Act of 2014 (H.R. 5421) to amend title 11 of the United States Code in order to facilitate the resolution of an insolvent financial institution in bankruptcy;
    • H.R. 5050, to repeal the Act of May 31, 1918;
    • Blackfoot River Land Exchange Act of 2014 (S. 2040) to exchange trust and fee land to resolve land disputes created by the realignment of the Blackfoot River along the boundary of the Fort Hall Indian Reservation;
    • Nevada Native Nations Lands Act (H.R. 2455) amended, to provide for the sale or transfer of certain Federal lands in Nevada;
    • Coastal Barrier Resources Act (H.R. 3572)
    • Strengthening Domestic Nuclear Security Act of 2014 (H.R. 5629) amended, to amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to strengthen the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, by a vote of 374-11.
    • Critical Infrastructure Protection Act (H.R. 3410) to amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to secure critical infrastructure against electromagnetic pulses; and
    • National Laboratories Mean National Security Act (H.R. 3438) to amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to authorize use of grants under the Urban Area Security Initiative and the State Homeland Security Grant Program to work in conjunction with a Department of Energy national laboratory, by a vote of 386 – 0.

Today:

  • The House is expected to consider:
    • A bill to amend the Commodity Exchange Act and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 to specify how clearing requirements apply to certain affiliate transactions, and for other purposes (HR 5471).
    • Disclosure Modernization and Simplification Act (HR 4569)
    • SBIC Advisers Relief Act (HR 4200)
    • A bill to instruct the comptroller general of the United States to study the impact of Regulation D, and for other purposes (HR 3240).
    • Pest Management Records Modernization Act (HR 5714)
    • No Social Security for Nazis Act (HR 5739)

 

Senate

 

Yesterday:

  • The Senate began consideration of executive nominations.

Today:

  • The Senate reconvenes at 10 a.m. and shortly thereafter is expected to swear in Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Tim Scott (R-SC) both of whom are serving out the terms of their predecessors.
  • At 10:30 a.m., senators plan to hold confirmation votes on two ambassador nominations, followed by two cloture votes on nominations to the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
  • At 4 p.m., the Senate is expected to hold a second vote series on nominations, including a cloture vote on an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission nominee.
    • Further votes are possible.
