This Week’s Update

Last week, the House passed legislation  “To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to modify and make permanent bonus depreciation” (H.R. 4718) by a 258-160 vote. The House also passed the “Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2015” (H.R. 4923) by a 253-170 vote. The Senate last week confirmed the nominations of Shaun Donovan to be the Director of the Office of Management and Budget by a vote of 75-22 and Julian Castro to be the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development by a vote of 71-26.  


This Week in Congress

  • House –  The House passed H.R. 4718 “To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to modify and make permanent bonus depreciation” by a 258-160 vote. The House agreed to H. Res. 661, the rule for consideration of the “Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act, 2015” (H.R. 5016) by a 234-188 vote. The House passed the “Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2015” (H.R. 4923) by a 253-170 vote.

 

  • Senate –  The Senate confirmed the nominations of Shaun Donovan to be the Director of the Office of Management and Budget by a vote of 75-22 and Julian Castro to be the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development by a vote of 71-26. The Senate failed to invoke cloture on the “Bipartisan Sportsman’s Act” (S.2363) by a 41-56 vote.

 

Next Week in Congress

  • House –  The House will consider the “Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act, 2015” (H.R. 5016), the “Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2014” (H.R. 5021), and the “Fighting Hunger Incentive Act of 2014” (H.R. 4719). The House may also consider the “Conservation Easement Incentive Act of 2013” (H.R. 2807), the “Permanent IRA Charitable Contribution Act of 2014” (H.R. 4619), the “Charitable Giving Extension Act” (H.R. 3134), and the “Private Foundation Excise Tax Simplification Act of 2014” (H.R. 4691). The House may take up a Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) reauthorization next week.

 

  • Senate –  The Senate will hold cloture votes on the nominations of Norman Bay to be a Member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Cheryl LaFleur to be a Member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on July 15. The Senate will vote on four amendments to “Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (TRIA) of 2014” (S.2244) and possibly the underlying bill on July 16.
