The House elected a new Majority Leader and Majority Whip; The Senate stalls on Appropriations minibus.

House

 

Yesterday:

  • The House continued debate on the “Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2015” (H.R. 4870), which provides total procurement funding of slightly more than $91 billion for fiscal year 2015.
  • The House agreed to H. Res. 629, the rule that is providing for consideration of the bill (H.R. 4413) to reauthorize the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, to better protect futures customers, to provide end users with market certainty, to make basic reforms to ensure transparency and accountability at the Commission, and to help farmers, ranchers, and end users manage risks to help keep consumer costs low, by a vote 230 – 184.
  • House Republicans elected Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Majority Leader and Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) as Majority Whip.

Today:

  • The House is expected to complete consideration of “Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2015” (H.R. 4870).
    • First and last votes are expected between 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM.

 

Senate

 

Yesterday:

  • The Senate resumed consideration of H.R. 4660, the House Commerce, Justice, Science appropriations bill; however, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) effectively pulled the $126.2 billion package after Republicans and Democrats were unable to reach a deal on amendments.

Today:

  • The Senate is in recess.
