This week’s Washington Update covers: taxes; financial services; energy and environment; defense; health; transportation and infrastructure; and technology.

This Week in Congress

  • House – The House passed the “Swaps Regulatory Improvement Act” (H.R. 992) and the “Retail Investor Protection Act” (H.R. 2374). The House also passed a resolution of disapproval for a debt limit suspension, H.J. Res. 99.

 

  • Senate – The Senate confirmed Katherine Archuleta to be the Director of the Office of Personnel Management, Frank Estevez to be the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics, and Richard F. Griffin, Jr. to be General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board. The Senate rejected motions to invoke cloture on the nominations of Representative Melvin Watt (D-NC) to be the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and Patricia Millett to be United States Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit. The Senate rejected the motion to proceed to S. J. Res. 26, a resolution of disapproval for a debt limit suspension. The Senate passed the “School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act” (H.R. 2094) and requested a conference committee on the Water Resources Development Act (S. 601 and H.R. 3080).

  • House – The House is in recess until November 12.

 

  • Senate – On November 4, the Senate will hold three votes on motions to invoke cloture on the “Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2013” (S. 815) and the nominations of Debra M. Brown to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi and Gregory Howard Woods to be United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York.
