This week’s Washington Update covers: taxes; financial services; energy and environment; defense; health; transportation and infrastructure; and technology.

This Week in Congress

  • House – The House agreed to a motion to go to conference for the “Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013” (HR. 2642). The House passed a series of targeted continuing resolutions, including the “Federal Aviation Administration Continuing Appropriations Resolution” H.J. Res. 90); the “Border Security and Enforcement Continuing Appropriations Resolution” (H.J. Res. 79); the “Food and Drug Administration Continuing Appropriations Resolution” (H.J. Res. 77); and the “Head Start for Low-Income Children Act” (H.J. Res. 84). The House also passed the “Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act” (H.R. 3223) and the “Military Death Gratuities and Related Survivor Benefits” (H.J. Res. 91).

 

  • Senate – The Senate began consideration of the motion to proceed to consideration of the “Default Prevention Act of 2013” (S. 1569). The Senate passed the “Military Death Gratuities and Related Survivor Benefits” (H.J. Res. 91).

 

Next Week in Congress

  • House – The House will meet on Saturday, October 12 and may consider a Democratic motion to instruct conferees on the “Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013” (HR. 2642) and H. Res. 378, a sense of the House resolution regarding certain provisions of the Senate amendment to H.R. 2642 relating to the Secretary of Agriculture’s administration of tariff-rate quotas for raw and refined sugar. Debt limit and/or continuing resolution legislation could also potentially be considered.

 

  • Senate – The Senate will meet on Saturday, October 12 and a cloture vote on the motion to proceed to the “Default Prevention Act of 2013” (S. 1569) is scheduled. Additional debt limit and/or continuing resolution legislation could also potentially be considered.
