This week’s Washington Update covers: taxes; trade; financial services; energy and environment; defense; health; transportation and infrastructure; and technology.

This Week in Congress

  • House – The House passed the “National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014” (H.R. 1960) by a 315-108 vote. The House approved the “Swap Jurisdiction Certainty Act” (H.R. 1256) which directs the SEC and CFTC to jointly adopt rules setting forth the application to cross-border swaps transactions of certain provisions relating to swaps that were enacted as part of Dodd-Frank Act.

 

  • Senate – The Senate approved “Agriculture Reform, Food, and Jobs Act of 2013” (S. 954) by a vote of 66-27 and began consideration of the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act” (S.744). Senator-designate Jeffrey S. Chiesa, of New Jersey, was sworn in by the Vice President.

 

Next Week in Congress

  • House – The House is expected to begin consideration of the “Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013” (H.R. 1947.)

 

  • Senate – The Senate will resume consideration of the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act” (S.744) and will vote on the confirmation of two district judge nominations.
