This week’s Washington Update covers: taxes; financial services; energy and environment; defense; health; transportation and infrastructure; and technology.

This Week in Congress

  • House – The House approved the “Department of Defense, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act of 2013” (H.R. 933), which extends sequester-level funding for the government through September 30. The House also approved the Senate amendment to the “Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Reauthorization Act of 2013” (H.R. 307) and a resolution requiring that the President’s annual budget include an “estimate of the cost per taxpayer of the deficit” (H.R. 668).

 

  • Senate – The Senate confirmed the nomination of John Brennan to be Director of the CIA.

 

Next Week in Congress

  • House – The House will consider the “Eliminate Privacy Notice Confusion Act” (H.R. 749), “Preserving Work Requirements for Welfare Programs Act of 2013” (H.R. 890) and the “Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act” (H.R. 890), which would reform the U.S. workforce investment system.

 

  • Senate – The Senate will begin consideration of the House-passed “Department of Defense, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act of 2013” (H.R. 933).
