This week’s Washington Update covers: taxes; financial services; energy and environment; defense; transportation; and technology.

This Week in Congress

  • House – The House was not in session.

 

  • Senate – The Senate approved the House-passed “No Budget, No Pay Act of 2013” (H.R. 325) and the “Disaster Relief Appropriations Act, 2013” (H.R 152). The Senate also confirmed the nomination of Senator John Kerry (D-MA) to be Secretary of State.

 

Next Week in Congress

  • House – The House is likely to consider the “Require a PLAN Act” (H.R. __), which would require a supplemental unified budget if the President’s does not achieve balance in the FY 2014 budget. The House is also schedule to consider the following bills under suspension of the rules: the “Children’s Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act of 2013” (H.R. 297), the “Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act of 2013” (H.R. 235), and the “National Pediatric Research Network Act of 2013” (H.R. 225).

 

  • Senate – The Senate will begin consideration of the “Violence Against Women Act” (S. 47).
