This week’s Washington Update covers: taxes; financial services; energy and environment; and defense.

This Week in Congress

  • House – The House approved the “Stop the War on Coal Act of 2012” (H.R. 3409) and several other bills under suspension of the rules, including the “Buffett Rule Act of 2012” (H.R. 6410) and a bill to “amend the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 to clarify provisions relating to the regulation of municipal advisors” (H.R. 2827). The House failed to pass the “STEM Jobs Act of 2012” (H.R. 6429) under suspension of the rules.

 

  • Senate – The Senate began consideration of the “Continuing Appropriations Resolution for FY 2013” (H. J. Res. 117). Votes on cloture and final passage could occur as soon as tonight, but action on the bill could extend into the weekend.

Next Week in Congress

  • House – The House is in recess until November 13, 2012.

 

  • Senate – Upon passage of the “Continuing Appropriations Resolution for FY 2013”, the Senate is also expected to recess until after the elections.
